June 1999

Few contemporary blues artists could realistically hope to garner wide commercial acceptance playing such a non-commercial form of music, but Tommy Castro might be an exception to the rule. Right As Rain, Castro's third and best Blind Pig release to date, makes it easy to see why he's been a favorite in the san Francisco area since the early 90's. With soulful, no-nonsense vocals, and a prevalent horn sound, Castro creates a timeless, accessible, Stax/Volt-like vibe. The guitar soars any time Castro decides to cut loose, but the songs also benefit from his ability to play with thoughtful, tasteful restraint. Features guest appearances by Delbert McClinton and Dr John.
